Well this was always going to be a difficult match, but all credit to the boys for attacking it with confidenceand 100% commitment. Our previous game against Clissold this season had resulted in a very average performance and a 7-2 defeat.
The game started pretty level and there were attacks at both ends, Clissold as always played good passing football and put together some good moves, however it was very pleasing to see Eclipse also putting together some decent moves and being more than a little unfortunate not to take a lead.
There was a strong wind in our favour in the first half and it would have been good to see us test the Clissold keeper with a few more shots early on but that said the first half performance was very promising.
Unfortunately early in the second half Clissold took the lead with a very well taken goal that gave Connor no chance to keep out and with the wind behind them Clissold looked to be a lot more dangerous in the second half. Our team though worked as a very effective unit and pulled together and battled to create opportunities of their own. Jake who was Star Player of the game for his constant hard work was instrumental in many with strong defensive work in midfield supplemented with his involvement in most of our attacks.
Jake came close to supplying us with the equaliser when he attacked well down the Clissold left and getting to the goal line crossing the ball in with his left, unfortunately after a bit of a scramble the opposition were able to clear the ball and retain their lead.
The game finished 1-0 to Clissold but our team can be proud of the work they put in and their individual performances. I'm very pleased with both the attitude and the performance of all the boys today and despite there being some difficult challenges in front of them I'm confident that the boys will approach these confidently and continue to move on and progress both as a squad and as individuals.
